Research

This project began with research into different learning styles, focusing on how active, concrete learners absorb and retain information. We explored how much information they can process at once, along with the tools and methods that best support their understanding. From there, we translated these findings into design decisions — identifying the types of visuals, layouts, and color schemes that help these learners engage, process, and remember information more effectively.

Design

We dove deep into the skate community, exploring the recurring themes and trends that brands typically lean on to attract buyers. Instead of following the crowd, we aimed to break away from those familiar visuals and attitudes. Our goal was to stand out — creating something fresh, bold, and different. That led us to a grunge-inspired aesthetic, blending raw, edgy elements with a sleek, modern twist to challenge the norm and carve our own lane.

Development

As the project evolved, we introduced a pamphlet to accompany the skateboard, creating a complete, connected experience. We carefully crafted both pieces to align visually and conceptually, making sure they worked together to communicate the brand’s message with clarity and impact. Every detail was considered to ensure the design language flowed seamlessly between the board and the pamphlet.

Concept

Grindlab is a skate brand built for skaters who aren’t afraid to stand out. Through research into active, concrete learners, we explored how people process information — what grabs attention, what sticks, and how design can amplify that experience. This research guided our decisions on layout, color, and messaging, making sure every piece resonates with clarity and impact.
